Excellent topic coverage - I especially like the coverage on technology selection & management, supply chain management, and maintenance management.



I like the way the appendices are handled at the end of the text and not scattered throughout the text. Gaither/Frazier has done a good job of integrating the quantitative methods used in POM into the regular text material rather than treating them as appendices.

I am using the Gaither and Frazier textbook this semester because I was pleased to see a chapter on maintenance planning in an Operations Management book. By having the subject included in a textbook the students see that it is now important. I introduce engineering terminology such as MTBF, MTTR, and Availability measures. I feel it is important because these are specs purchasing agents or sales reps will need to become familiar with. This chapter should always be included in a course that teaches the concepts of JIT manufacturing.

The strengths of Gaither and Frazier include: (1) the internet assignment, industry snapshots, and wrap-ups are excellent bridges between theory and practice; and (2) the visual aids, such as the colors, images, and graphs, are used so nicely that really help materials flow and catch the reader's attention.

About the Author
Norman Gaither is Professor Emeritus of Business Analysis and Research at Texas A&M University. He received his Ph.D. and MBA from the University of Oklahoma and his B.S.I.E. from Oklahoma State University. Prior to teaching, Professor Gaither worked at Olin Corporation, where he held the positions of chief industrial engineer, plant manager, and director of a multiplant operation, and at B.F. Goodrich Company as senior industrial engineer.

Professor Gaither's writings on a wide range of operations management topics have appeared in Management Science, Decision Sciences, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Simulation, Journal of Purchasing and Materials Management, IIE Transactions, Journal of Cost Analysis, and International Journal of Operations and Production Management.

Dr. Gaither has served on the editorial boards of several highly respected journals in the operations management field. He is also an AACSB Federal Faculty Fellow.

Greg Frazier is an Associate Professor of Production and Operations Management in the Department of Information Systems and Management Sciences at The University of Texas at Arlington. He is an APICS Certified Fellow in Production and Inventory Management (CFPIM) and has served as a Faculty Fellow at The Boeing Company. Other teaching experience includes Texas A&M University, University of Oregon, and Harvard Summer School at Harvard University.

Professor Frazier received a BS in mechanical engineering and an MBA from Texas A&M University. His Ph.D. in production and operations management is also from Texas A&M, where Norman Gaither chaired his dissertation research.

Dr. Frazier's long association with Norman Gaither has resulted in co-authored publications in several journals, including Journal of Operations Management, International Journal of Production Research, and Production and Inventory Management Journal. He has also published in journals such as International Journal of Production Economics, Journal of Productivity Analysis, IIE Transactions, and Business Horizons.

Worst Text Ever

I'm currently working on my Master's degree and this is probably the worst book ever written. Without a doubt I can say that I have never read such a confusing book. This book contradict's itself while placing concepts together that shouldn't be placed together. The chapter's cover too much information without clearly explaining any given example that goes along with a section. If you can, avoid this book at all costs. If I'm not reviewing clearly it must be that I just finished the last exhausting chapter of this book.

worst textbook ever!

I am a senior in college and I have used and read many, many textbooks but this is the worst one ever! Very hard to read, the example are not explained very well, MANY< MANY typo's that are confusing to the reader. Many math examples and explanations are outright just wrong. Even professor says its an awful book.

Should have never made it into college classrooms!!

The playboy meets his match!

Camilla and Marcus' story. Following in the same footsteps as the author's previous novel, this one follows through the meeting of soul mates (Cami and Marcus) and takes them through the trials and challenges of their happily ever after. Shayde and Dawn make an appearance in this book as well (will we get more on their story??). Marcus is a playboy who gets set on his backside after seeing his mate for the first time at the hospital and follows her to make her his. The author paints a picture of both of them and Marcus is truly droolable. Cami is sweet and innocent and has a power that ....well.....you'll have to read it to find out :) Definitely looking forward to reading another one of Krissy Daniels books! ***Reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock.

Glad I took a chance

I am not a regular reader of paranormals. I have read other books by Krissy Daniels though, and have been impressed by her writing skills. So, in spite of the genre, I found this book to be well plotted and to have an engaging cast of characters. The passion factor is high and fans of the series, the genre, or the author will not be disappointed. I am glad I took a chance. It is part of a series however, and I was a little at sea for a bit in the beginning.

Potential!

The Good: I was pleasantly surprised to receive this from Netgalley as an ARC. I’m a big fan of paranormal romance, and this is one of the better efforts I’ve read lately! The story sucked me in and I had to leave in the middle of reading it, but was anxious to get back and finish. I liked the world that the author has created, though I wish I knew a bit more about it (I’ve not read the first book in the series and still enjoyed this book #2). The characters were interesting and engaging, as was the storyline, so I think this series has great potential, especially as the author grows as a writer.

The Bad: The book was a tad uneven. The story was really interesting, but I really wish there was more depth to the scenes. We are whisked from one place to another and not always really sure why. Scenes that are very important (the H/H’s 1st real fight, the climax with the missing heroine, etc) are much too fast and occasionally leave you wondering what exactly happened. It didn’t limit my enjoyment of the book, but more in depth scenes would make a more emotional impact as well as taking the books to the next level.

Bottom line: Worth giving a shot – author/series has great potential!

Captivating, Detailed, and Well-Written Biography of the Legendary Stevie Nicks

Being a longtime fan of Stevie and Fleetwood Mac and having read many books about her, this one is by far the most captivating and detailed! I liked how the author showcased the contrasting sides of Stevie’s personality via her life stories: the energetic front woman of one of the biggest bands in history and the shy and vulnerable woman who despite her many accomplishments still questions her musical talents. The author utilizes many interviews with Stevie and those who were closest to her at various parts of her life including Fleetwood Mac members, album producers, and friends, to provide the full story from childhood to present day. The photos of Stevie through the years were awesome because many of them I had never seen.

I was thrilled to read new and fresh information about Stevie I hadn't known, including details of her multiyear stint with Lindsey in the band Fritz, the formation of Buckingham Nicks, her embarrassment over their only album cover, and how they joined Fleetwood Mac. Any fan of Fleetwood Mac, especially during the “Rumours” era knows about the turbulent relationship of Stevie and Lindsey, but this book details the sources of the tension, including excessive drug use, Lindsey’s controlling tendencies and harsh critiques of Stevie’s songs, and even their competitiveness with each other, which the author highlighted with a story of Lindsey imitating Stevie and becoming violent onstage with her during a “Tusk” tour concert.

All of the behind the scenes details of her solo albums, her extensive collaborations with Tom Petty and Jimmy Iovine, and her heartbreaks over her love affairs with Mick Fleetwood, Don Henley, Joe Walsh, and her short but doomed marriage to Kim Anderson were fascinating. Stevie’s decade long struggle with cocaine and later her Klonopin addiction were quite riveting to read about too. The book takes us through the many Fleetwood Mac reunions and late 1980s and 1990s line up changes until their current “On With the Show” tour.

Lastly, I enjoyed that the author provided details of the inspirations behind most of the songs Stevie has written for Fleetwood Mac and as a solo artist. One interesting example is the song “Sara” from the “Tusk” album, which was about her affair with Mick Fleetwood, her friend Sara who Mick fell in love with, and the baby she aborted. Overall, this book is extremely well written, hard to put down, and offers a well-rounded perspective on the life and career of the legendary Stevie Nicks. If you’re a fan of Stevie and/or Fleetwood Mac, this is a must read!

Not bad but nothing exceptional!

A decent read, however I knew already many of the things posted in this book. I think the author may have wanted to beat Stephen Davis to the press by getting this out before his bio of Ms. Nicks is released in October of this year.
There wasn't anything earth shattering about this book that warrants 5 stars. I actually didn't finish it there were about 4 chapters I just stopped reading due to already knowing what was going to be said.
When reading a celebrity bio a reader wants the meat and potatoes, the unknown facts of a famous person's life and work, so while not an awful read, hey at least she can spell which is an exception on kindle these days and I'm very serious when I say that. I try to be fair regarding book reviews and while Zoe Howe obviously did investigate Ms. Nicks life it felt rushed and did not have the depth one would want in a bio, especially since Stevie Nicks will probably never write her own life story.
In this book Stevie comes across as selfish, narcissistic, and the typical me, me, me that many famous people end up believing in their own hype. I at times found myself not liking Stevie Nicks the person and I am a huge fan of hers.
There is a part in this book where Stevie tells one of the (I believe producer/sound engineers) that she was happy his dog died because his dog was the one featured on the Tusk cover because according to Stevie Nicks that should of been her cover, not cool if true and extremely telling of the personality.
I liked Carol Ann Harris book much better. I found out things I didn't know about Ms. Nicks and Fleetwood Mac. There simply was not enough details in this book to keep me entertained and while I did appreciate the sense of humor that went into this book added by the author's perceptive most of what was written about regarding Ms. Nicks life, Stevie has talked of in interviews and has already been written about.
If you're a new fan this book will serve you well, older fans who already know the Stevie-Lindsey love hate etc. etc. with tons of filler I'd say wait for Davis book.

It was way better than I thought it would be

A friend of mine told me about the book so I just had to order it. It was way better than I thought it would be. Such interesting...not out in the public...info in the book! So many little secrets. Loved it!
