If you're a newbie-yes. Otherwise-no.

First off, I've been seriously metal detecting for a few years now. I bought this book because I really like his youtube videos. Thought I might pick up a few helpful research tips. Not so much. There were 1 or 2 I hadn't thought of, but not enough info to be worth the cost of the book for me. That being said, it's definitely a good book if you're new to the hobby, probably 4 or 5 stars worth. It spells out a lot of stuff that will take you a pretty good amount of time to work out on your own. 3 stars from me because I've already figure out 98% of whats in it. I was hoping for a little more. It'll go in my library and the next time someone shows an interest in the hobby I'll hand them this book to read.
Synopsis: If you're new to the hobby, buy the book. If you've been at it seriously for a year or two, don't bother. (unsolicited plug coming up) Either way, go check out their YouTube videos, "Dirt Fishin America". Really cool stuff they find that'll make you want to get out there and find something yourself.

If you buy one book on detecting this is it. (NOT A BIBLE!)

This is a great book. If you only buy one book on detecting this is the one to get.
It covers everything from basic principles, to tools, scouting sites, parks, beaches, gold
prospecting, permissions, etc, A lot is packed in only 120 pages. Very well written!

As much as I love this book and Highly recommend it.

It is NOT A BIBLE! . . . . . . Not even close to being one.

As inclusive as this book is it does not go into a lot of details. The section on PI detectors is only about
a page long, pinpoint mode is only 4 lines. There is little on what brands, what feature to look for, buying
a detector, where to buy, costs, etc. A bible would show block diagrams of schematics of the internal workings
of detectors, have a forty of fifty page buying guide, a large list of internet sites, clubs, magazines, and useful books.
Manufactures index with web addresses, buying options. how to tell the difference in models, etc.
A list of map sites. A detailed history with pictures charts diagrams. I could go on and on.
On this subject a bible would be at least five or six hundred pages long.........

Not a bible but a very good "beginners guide"

I got this because my brother-in-law just got a metal detector and it's been his new thing. We wanted an activity that we could do together for "family bonding" and thought this was a fun and unique activity. After looking at a few different books, this was one of the ones we picked up to help guide us through this new adventure. This book is amazing! When it says it's your bible, it' speaks the truth. Whatever truth you believe in, this is it. It is a great book for seasoned hunters and newbies a like! This book does a great job of covering everything from gloves to contracts - really a great spectrum of advice for any one who enjoys metal detecting. I had no idea there was even such a thing as swing techniques until I picked up this book [ obviously I fall into the newb category ]. Amazing book! Well written, easy to understand and a must-have for anyone.

Easy to follow; just wish there was a little more support from Pearson

This is the 2nd school year that I used this textbook for our 9th grade computer class. Overall I definitely like this textbook. It's easy to follow, and the online resources are helpful. There are some errors in the book. On very rare occasions a step in assignment does not match the student data files.

We purchased the spiral bound hardback for our classroom use. The textbooks are great quality. This week I purchased the spiral-bound softcover assuming that it would have the same content as the hardback spiral-bound. Unfortunately there is a drastic difference between the content of the spiral-bound softcover and the spiral-bound hardcover. The difference is around 300 pages missing. The spiral-bound softcover does not include Access, and perhaps other topics too. I haven't looked closely.

Pearson seems to have lost interest in this series. I have attempted contacting them for help with specific assignments, and they did not respond. I also inquired about the Level 2 teacher's manual, and they replied saying that there was NO teacher's manual for Level 2 and they have no plans to write one.

Again, I really do like this series other than the few issues mentioned above.

Very smooth, very sexy...

There are people who write erotica and then there are people who WRITE erotica. Risqué is the latter. After a pretty long wait since `Red Light Special' we are taken back to the world that only Risqué can write. It's not just the erotica that makes her work great, it's everything else. How she fits so much into 250 pages is the magic she creates. How good is this book? I finished it in two days. I know, I know, I know, big deal right? Well for me it is Mr. & Mrs. Condescending. SO THERE!

Lyfe seems to have it all. An exceptionally good job, an exceptionally freaky wife, an exceptionally large bank account, and an exceptionally large endowment (and I'm not talking about the Arts). Problem is his woman is more of a man than Hulk Hogan. Not in the physical sense but Payton is `HBIC' and if you question it she'll damn near shoot you. Lyfe is reformed thug and you can imagine that dichotomy between those two. They fight hard, sex harder, and we get to witness it all.

Arri is a voluptuous walking definition of sex who is a secretary by day and a web-cam hottie by night. Her boss? Lyfe. I'm sure you can put two and two together. Risqué is known for her drama and her twists so put on your seatbelt and turn off your airbag. "Hell hath no fury as a woman scorned". The twist is finding out who that woman is. Pay attention grasshopper because the ending is wicked. Risque' continues her special blend of everything in this, her latest novel `Smooth Operator'.

Arri has been on her own at a young age since her mother abandon her family. As a secretary by day and working the webcam at night, Arri does what she needs to do to help support her nephew. When both Lyfe and Arri's life intertwine, they will have to go up against a very jealous wife, who stops at nothing to get what she wants.

With friends and lovers like these, who needs enemies. Definitely, a tangle web was weaved with these characters in the way the author brought them together. With five main characters, I think sex was the sixth main character in this book, everyone was doing it, and it was used as a deadly weapon.

Payton, Lyfe's wife, wants him to run the New York office of her corporation for a while to oversee things. Her motive soon becomes clear once he is in New York, and thus starts the drama of everyone's life. Lyfe was definitely sexy, and dealing with a crazy wife, it brought out his dark and rough side. Payton was controlling, disgusting, crazy, psychotic, and sick in the head, enough of her. Arri is a provider for her and her nephew, and does what she has to do to survive and pay the bills. With her past, Arri finds herself unable to be close with anyone. So, when she connects with Lyfe, their chemistry was great and is worth the read. Quinton and Dominique's characters defiantly brought an interesting twist to the story.

The first four pages onwards, double wow. What a way to start a book, the moment the story starts, it dives right in, literally. In addition, if you thought chapter one ended with a bang, chapter two with Arri did not disappoint at all. It felt as though the author was showing us what everyone was working with.

I enjoyed this book and it's definitely up there with my taste in books. If you're looking for a morally and sweet romance, this is not the book for you. Also, note to reader, some sex scenes may not be to some readers liking.

Payton Anderson was a rich widower that became the CEO of Anderson Global and personally handpicks the finer than fine Lyfe Carrington, a mere UPS driver from Crenshaw to become her spouse and eye candy. Arrielle `Arri' Askew is a single mom employed at Anderson Global by day and moonlights as the Smooth Operator by night. Payton is a demanding, controlling diva that wants what she wants when she wants it and Lyfe has found out he isn't cut out for the demeaning temperaments that his wife likes to exhibit. Reluctantly Lyfe travels to the New York office as Payton bitchily requests for business purposes but upon his arrival, the magnetism that flares between he and Arri is undeniable. Quinton and Dominique King are basically married in name only...the question how long before Quinton's continuous infidelity and disrespect push Dominique into a life of reckless behavior? Anderson Global and its New York employees will never be the same once Lyfe Carrington and his charismatic aura saunters into their safe haven.

The question remains: Will Payton's cruel streak be able to destruct more lives or will her reign of tyranny dissolve like the Wicked Witch of the West? Arri has always been the sacrificial lamb, will she finally be granted a pass with a happiness of her very own? Can the hilariously holy remain holy with a tamborine while breaking bread in the midst of cheaters, murderers, adulterers, manipulators, and a slew of perpetrators? Can a real man maintain his dignity, integrity, and intellect as well as his freedom when he discovers that he's basically sold his soul to the devil? Who's real...who's fake...who's playing...who's following the rules...who does the rules really apply to...who's to be the victim and why...who knows the secrets that don't even realize that they're secrets...who's move will be the winning one and who will be the last person standing with a bag of disgust, distrust, and total disdain? Suspense, drama, scandalous behavior, passion, betrayal, outrage, lust, recklessness, despair, and incredible humor all adorn this impressive novel. A Must for Die-Hard Fans, but...

Reading this reminds me of exactly how I felt when I played Dirge of Cerberus, the game set as the sequel to the epic Final Fantasy VII. I enjoyed it as slightly as I did, only because it was FFVII. And I'm not talking about the gameplay; that's irrelevant. What I'm talking about is the development of the story and it's justice paid to the original. If Dirge of Cerberus were a game competely separate of the FFVII plotline, with the same series of scenes and events, but with a whole different cast of characters in an entirely different setting, I think it would have been a complete debacle. In of itself, it holds no valuable depth, leaving it dependent solely on its attachment to familiar characters.

Reading this graphic novel version of the legendary Metal Gear Solid had me feeling the same exact way. If the game never existed, and this were an original graphic novel series like Frank Miller's Sin City, it would not be able to stand on its own. I felt better about buying it before I actually read it, just having it sit in my room as a collector's item, and leaving the fulfillment of its infinite potential up to my imagination.

Before I go on, let me make one thing clear: it is not the artwork that disappoints me. The artwork is a topic of discussion for many fans. Some like it; some don't. Personally, I find the edgy/sketchy artwork to fit the portrayal of both the characters and the environment very well. But seeing as to how "on the fence" the body of fans seem to be, I won't go into it.

What really disappoints me is the writing. As some reviewers have mentioned, the graphic novel incorporates additional scenes and dialogue that help color in the more subtle points of the story, which adds an edge of exclusivity to the graphic novel's adaptation. Overall, however, the exclusivity of these scenes is not enough. The execution and delivery of the writing, although it successfully runs through the major points along the plotline, fails to bring out the emotional depth embedded throughout the plot itself. It's almost as if reading a synopsis of the plot through characters summarizing the events of the story to each other. The scenes and dialogue zip through as if in fast-forward, rarely allowing the reader to delve into the scene and attach themselves emotionally to the characters.

More specifically, the characters are so shallow and single-sided. There really is a lacking of the depth, complexity, and thickness of the characters, especially Snake. Most of the time, he's either making crude, sarcastic jokes, or screaming out someone's name. Now, I'm completely aware that sarcasm and screaming are large parts of Snake's character, but so are confusion, regret, callousness, and so many other emotions and qualities that make Snake as intriguing a character as he is, but that are missing from the writing in the graphic novel. Ultimately, because the characters lack a large emotional engagement in the plot, so is it difficult for readers to become emotionally engaged.

Two final points. Part of what I was expecting from this graphic novel is the grasping of the opportunity to get into Snake's head. If you read many of the most acclaimed graphic novels such as Watchmen, V for Vendetta, and The Dark Knight Returns, part of what makes them so great is the writer's ability to bring out the thoughts of the main characters, to get into their minds. And because the game isn't able to delve into the realm of thought, I was excited to see how the graphic novel would utilize the opportunity. It doesn't, however, take this opportunity, and leaves everything expressed through dialogue. When Snake is alone, walking through a moonlit valley of snow, I want to hear his thoughts feel the cold, the ominous looming of the abysmal night sky, and the emptiness. I want to hear of his insecurities, his fears, his hopes, everything that allows me to see and understand the world through his eyes. Maybe he's not thinking anything! But at least show the absence of thought, the absence of emotion. That in itself, the lack thereof, is significant.

The final point I want to make is the particular scenes and dialogue that the writer chose to keep versus those he cut out. I'll use the Vulcan Raven fight and the final fight against Metal Gear Rex as examples. The original version of these scenes are, I feel, the most powerful scenes in the storyline. However, as I mentioned before, these scenes are so rushed, and so detached, that when I read them, I was unable to rekindle the appreciation I had felt before.

In the original version, right before Vulcan dies, Vulcan exposes Snake's ruthlessness, describing the merciless trail he leaves behind that is marked by the blood of his enemies. Speaking to Snake with bullets in his body and a smile, Vulcan enters a heavy, psychological investigation of Snake, revealing the age old question in Snake's character: is he really a valiant hero, or is he just a pawn who fights only because fighting is all he knows?

In the game, this scene is contrasted with the dialogue between Grey Fox and Snake while they are fighting Rex. Their lengthy discussion of loyalty, integrity, honor, etc., leads to one of the most famous lines not just from the game, but from the entire series. Grey Fox tells Snake that despite the fact he is a pawn, he still fights for what he believes in.

In the graphic novel, these two pivotal pieces of dialogue are stripped completely. The scenes remain, but instead of Vulcan and Grey Fox digging deep into the mysterious realms of the soul, they deliver only mechanical accounts of the plot. I am aware that some adjustments had to be made. However, I feel as though there was a terrible loss in translation. The graphic novel proves to focus too heavily on the plot itself, rather than the actual characters involved, and ends up reading like a bullet-point outline with pictures.

Overall, this is still something all hardcore MGS fans might want to have. The three star rating is for people who are already MGS fans, who are probably the only ones looking up this graphic novel anyway. But if you're separate from the MGS loop, and you're a fan of the graphic novel medium, not the game, this is definitely a 1-2 star.

MGS Saga in One Complete Book

This hardback book is a great way to relive snakes first adventure of his psone game in comic form. The comic fleshes out characters with new dialogue and art. if your going to buy the comics anyway just pay for the hardback. its heavy duty and the pages are glossy nice. a must for comic and MGS fans.

I loved this Graphic Novel. The art. is amazing, but not evryone will like it. The story is exactly as both games, just whit little changes. The material is one of the best and you'll have lots of fun. Of you're a fan of Metal Gear, this to be your next purchase.
